School projects
Our projects for pupils are intended to serve as a supplement to class instruction, and they are a excellent module when it comes to hands-on science lessons.
Minerals – geometric shapes
This project for primary-school pupils is designed to complement geometry lessons in the 4th form and the early 5th form. The pupils are shown that crystals are especially lovely and well-defined geometric shapes. In small groups, they learn to create geometric figures by turning and reflecting objects to reproduce the shapes of crystals. This allows them to practice their spatial sense in a playful fashion. In the permanent exhibition "In the realm of minerals", the pupils go on a quest to explore the wide range of mineral shapes.

The rock cycle
This project is designed for children in the 8th - 12th form. It is intended to complement the lessons taught in geography and social studies courses. This project is also recommended if the school curriculum spends little or no time covering the topic of rocks.
Project structure:
In the theoretical part of the programme, we present the rock cycle with descriptive illustrations. We work with the school students to review the course content and explore it in greater depth, and they learn a great deal about the three main types of rocks.
In the hands-on section, selected stones are identified in small-group work, an approach which also enhances the students' methodological and social competence. Each group then presents a summary of their results in a workbook which was specially designed for this project.
Special areas of technical emphasis can be arranged when the project is booked.

Urmenschen – eine Spurensuche (Kursstufe, ggf. Mittelstufe)
In diesem Projekt machen wir uns auf Spurensuche nach den Urmenschen. Wann und wo traten die ersten Urmenschen auf? Wodurch sind sie gekennzeichnet? Was besagt die "Out-of-Africa-Hypothese"? Was unterscheidet die Urmenschen von den modernen Menschen? Wie kam es zum aufrechten Gang? Diesen und vielen anderen Fragen gehen wir auf den Grund.
Nach einem Überblick über die Evolution der Urmenschen und der Arbeit der Paläoanthropologen untersuchen wir in Kleingruppen die Morphologie von Schädelabgüssen verschiedener Urmenschen. Wir bestimmen Schädelproportionen und untersuchen den Kauapparat. Darüberhinaus betrachten wir Unterschiede der Skelettmorphologie zwischen Homo sapiens, Pan troglydes und Gorilla gorilla und erforschen dabei die Entwicklung des aufrechten Ganges.
Dieses Projekt wurde für die Kursstufe konzipiert. Wenn Grundlagen der Evolutionstheorie in der Schule bereits vermittelt wurden, eignet sich das Projekt auch für die Mittelstufe.
Dauer: 2 Stunden
Kosten: 2,50 € je Schüler/in
