- Ordering/cataloguing of the swallowtail collection (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae)
- Ordering/cataloguing of the Hemiptera collection (true bugs, cicadas, hoppers)

- Entomology (especially Hemiptera), biodiversity, biogeography, evolution, systematics and taxonomy of insects
- Bioacoustics, behavioural biology of insects
- Evolutionary relationships between herbivore insects and their host plants, especially bryophytes
- History of biology
