Ethnobotanik und Ethnozoologie im Himalaya und Mittelasien- Indien, Nepal, Pakistan und Uzbekistan
Die grössere Himalaya-Region mit Mittelasien birgt einen Großteil der biologischen und kulturellen Vielfalt der Welt. Diese Vielfalt strukturiert sich nicht nur über das steile Nord-Süd-Höhengefälle, sondern auch über ein Ost-West-Gefälle der Niederschläge. Tausende von Pflanzen und Tieren werden gemeinsam als Medizin, Lebensmittel, Futter, religiöse Zwecke usw. verwendet. Besonders in Berggemeinden sind diese Nutzpflanzen lebenswichtig, in einigen Gebieten werden sie von praktisch allen Haushalten gesammelt und stellen die Hälfte des Haushaltseinkommens
Die dialektische Beziehung zwischen indigenem Wissen und Praktiken prägt das Ökosystem und wirkt sich auf die Pflanzenpopulationen aus. Indigenes Wissen und indigene Nutzung müssen explizit analysiert werden, damit geeignete Managementmaßnahmen entwickelt werden können, die sowohl auf wissenschaftlichem als auch auf lokalem Wissen aufbauen, um sowohl indigenes Wissen als auch Pflanzenpopulationen zu verwalten. Aufgrund der veränderten Wahrnehmung der lokalen Bevölkerung, der Kommerzialisierung und des sozioökonomischen Wandels auf der ganzen Welt wurde jedoch allgemein beobachtet, dass das indigene Wissen über die Nutzung pflanzlicher Ressourcen abgenommen hat. Aufgrund des Mangels an organisiertem und wissenschaftlichem Anbau, ordnungsgemäßem Management und Bewusstsein für soziale Faktoren nimmt die Anzahl nützlicher Pflanzenressourcen mit alarmierender Geschwindigkeit ab. Darüber hinaus nimmt auch das indigene Wissen über die Verwendung weniger bekannter Pflanzen rapide ab. Die vorliegende Studie bewertet daher die Vielfalt von Pflanzen und Tieren und untersucht die Beziehung zwischen Pflanzenvielfalt und einheimischer Nutzung pflanzlicher Ressourcen entlang des Höhen- und Längsgradienten.
Das Himalaya-Ethnobotanik-Programm basiert auf der Prämisse, dass die Zusammenarbeit mit der lokalen Bevölkerung der effektivste Weg ist, um artenreiche Gebiete nachhaltig zu erhalten. Durch die Integration ethnobotanischer Daten in Erhaltungspläne arbeiten wir mit Gemeinden zusammen, um ein Programm zu entwickeln, das nicht nur das Ökosystem schützt und wieder auffüllt, sondern auch mit ihrem täglichen Leben und ihren kulturellen Praktiken übereinstimmt.
Kapazitätsaufbau: Wir haben uns lokalen Kolleg*innen zusammengetan, um Doktoranden in den Methoden der Ethnobotanik auszubilden und wertvolle Felderfahrung zu vermitteln. Darüber hinaus unterstützen wir lokale Universitäten bei der Entwicklung ethnobotanischer Forschung und Kurse.
Naturschutz: Unser Ziel ist es, mit der lokalen Bevölkerung Strategien zu entwickeln, wie sie ihre natürlichen Ressourcen nachhaltig nutzen können, damit sie weise Verwalter ihrer Umwelt werden können. Wir arbeiten mit diesen Gemeinschaften zusammen, um Erhaltungspläne zu entwickeln, die sowohl ökologisch vorteilhaft als auch kulturell angemessen sind. Wir glauben auch fest daran, dass die Bewahrung traditionellen Wissens eine Schlüsselkomponente sowohl für die Erhaltung als auch für die Nachhaltigkeit ist.
Lebensqualität: Die Verbesserung der Lebensbedingungen ist ein grundlegender Bestandteil unserer Arbeit in jeder Gemeinde. Unser Programm basiert auf der Überzeugung, dass Umweltaktivitäten eng mit Entwicklungsaktivitäten verknüpft werden müssen, um die Armut in artenreichen, aber wirtschaftlich armen Ländern dauerhaft zu lösen. Wir glauben auch, dass eine gebildete, gesunde Gemeinschaft zu einer besseren Entscheidungsfindung führt.
