Barcoding of rust fungi in Germany

In the GBOL-Project (GBOL - German Barcode of Life) the animals, fungi and plants of Germany are recorded with their DNA Barcodes. In the first three-year phase the rust-fungi (Pucciniales) comprising ca. 500 German species will be included. The large-scale project is financed by the BMBF (Federal Ministry for Education and Research), and is coordinated by Prof. Johann Wolfgang Wägele and colleagues  (Forschungsmuseum Alexander König, Bonn). The subproject Pucciniales is managed by Markus Scholler in cooperation with colleagues of the university of Tübingen (Dr. Matthias Lutz) and the Julius-Kühn-Institut Braunschweig (Dr. Wolfgang Mayer). The ca. 12.000 voucher specimens of rust fungi at the herbarium of our museum are invaluable for this subproject.
